and explore with their owners the glories of summer.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>But there are also dangers which are inherent in the summer weather:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dehydration<\/li>\n<li>Heat stroke<\/li>\n<li>Sunburn.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summeridgeanimalclinic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Portable-Pet-Bowl.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1407 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summeridgeanimalclinic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Portable-Pet-Bowl-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Portable Pet Bowl\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Dehydration<\/span><\/b> is a special danger to dogs especially for the elderly and short-nosed canine breeds.\u00a0 They are more sensitive to the heat and more prone to heat stroke.\u00a0 It is always a good idea to bring along a container of fresh cool water on your outings with your canine companions.\u00a0 Before venturing out on your trips, just fill a stainless steel or BPA-free water container with cold water and ice cubes to keep the water cool.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Heat stroke<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summeridgeanimalclinic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Dog-in-Car.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1406 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summeridgeanimalclinic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Dog-in-Car-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dog in Car\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Every year we hear of pets being left in parked cars in parking lots unattended.\u00a0 Cars left in parking lots can heat up to dangerous temperatures leaving the pet at risk of heat stoke leading to death.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sunburn<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s always assumed that pets, having thick coats of fur are not vulnerable to sunburn.\u00a0 Actually, there are some dogs and cats who are just as prone to sunburn as humans.\u00a0 White animals and those with hair that is thin or nonexistent are sensitive to the sun and can get a sunburn and skin cancers.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to prevent sunburn for your pets is the same measures we use against sunburn:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.summeridgeanimalclinic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Sunglass-Dog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1409 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summeridgeanimalclinic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Sunglass-Dog-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Sunglass Dog\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shade<\/li>\n<li>Sun block.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pets should have sun block applied to sun-sensitive areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the tips of the ears<\/li>\n<li>nose<\/li>\n<li>belly<\/li>\n<li>groin areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dogs and cats have a tendency to lick off topical lotions and creams.\u00a0 These substances can also be
